PON is a national sports event in Indonesia, held every four years and followed by all provinces in Indonesia. Riau was chosen as the host of Pekan Olahraga Nasional XVIII or also known by the name of PON 2012. Indonesia's largest sporting event will be held in Pekanbaru, Riau on 9 September to 20 September 2012 (after the EURO 2012 Ukraine / Poland). PON 2012 Riau will host 39 sports with the number of medals to be contested as much as 555 gold medals, 555 silver medals and 729 bronze medals.
The official mascot of Riau PON 2012 is a bird named serindit, one of the native animals in the province of Riau. For the people of Riau, serindit regarded as a symbol of wisdom, beauty, courage, loyalty, humility and a symbol of wisdom.Until now there is still no official announcement about the schedule of PON 2012 Riau and PON 2012 Live Broadcast Schedule. We can only hope that this event can be watched live on television, just like when we watch the SEA GAMES 2011, and the Copa America 2011 live on RCTI.
